First, general features of chat communication are explained and illustrated by Russian examples (identity, disinhibition, play, written orality). Then two specific phenomena are discussed: the realisation of two speech acts (greetings and good-byes) and the rules of chat communication. In some respects, the research yields different results depending on the chat club the data is taken from.
